- My husband is not allowed to fast two meals in a row now, on my orders. Our church is asking us to fast on Wednesdays, and on his way home, he had a fender-bender because he was too light-headed to concentrate. He's always been this way when he doesn't eat--at one point he was tested for hypoglycemia, but he doesn't have that. Just a high metabolism that needs calories. (We should all be so lucky, right?) He's going to give up TV instead. I don't think he'll have a wreck from going without TV!
- My children have tiny feet. Miss Pink, who's 6, is still technically in a toddler size. I bought her two pairs of sandals at a giant resale event, and they are both too big. I only paid $11 for the two but I thought I had that base covered and now we have to find some more. I'll have to save these and hope she can wear them later. As for Mr. Blue, he hasn't grown out of his shoes in months, but I know we're going to wake up one morning and none of his shoes will fit. Probably on Easter morning. And did you know they don't make many choices for little boys' dress shoes? Unless you want to pay more than I do for my shoes, which I don't want to do!
- I bought a Swiffer and it worked pretty well on my hardwood floors. It doesn't pick up all the bigger pieces of food my
animals children drop under the table, but using it during the week was easier than getting out the broom, and kept the floor looking better until I did sweep and mop. I realize this is not exactly a new product, but I'm glad I got one.
- I'm getting better at remembering to let Mr. Blue do things for himself, whether it's snapping his jeans or getting a waffle out and toasting it. I sit on my hands (almost literally) and talk him through whatever he's trying to do, maybe pointing what he needs to grab. It works much better. Of course, he still screams the house down sometimes when I forget, or if he wanted to do something but didn't TELL me he wanted to. That's when I repeat under my breath, "It's only a phase, it's only a phase..."

I LOVE my swiffer and the Swiffer wet pads are even more useful in the bathroom!
ReplyDeleteMy 6 year old daughter has tiny feet, too! She was wearing the same size for well over a year before her feet had a growth spurt, but she's still in toddler sizes. She's just a little peanut!
ReplyDeleteWe love our swiffer vac. The kids use it to clean up the kitchen floor every night after dinner. They actually fight over who gets to do this chore. Now if I can only get them to fight over the bathroom cleaning.
ReplyDeleteShoes are hard - I have a hard time paying for a pair of shoes knowing that my kids will outgrow them in a couple of months. Target has some great inexpensive shoes for girls and boys. Having 2 boys, I've found some decent shoes there.
My dh is exactly the same - cannot function without food at regular intervals.
ReplyDeleteLet me know when you get to the end of that phase would ya... :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a good visual, you sitting on your hands. It's so hard not to do it yourself because it's so much faster, but if you can head off a fit by letting them do it themselves, it's worth it!
ReplyDeleteSince I can't do food right now, either, I fasted internet... much harder for me than TV.
That last one there will reverse itself in two to three years. My daughter shouts at me from four feet away for milk and I say, ah, ya, you can get that yourself hon as I'm MAKINGDINNERDOINGLAUNDRYANDDISHESSWEEPINGPACKINGLUNCHESandeveryotherlittlething
ReplyDeletebut she still thinks I should get it for her.
I love my swiffer. Two floors of hardwood with a hairy dog = the swiffer being my best friend.
ReplyDeleteI suffer from hypoglycemia and its the pits. even though your husband's test came back negative, he should definitely watch for signs. I was negative at first too!
I like the wet Swiffer for my kitchen floors between moppings.
ReplyDeleteMy kids have HUGE feet, lol!!
Found you through Musings of a Housewife. I have the opposite shoe problem...my kids have enormous feet. My 6-year-old daughter wears a size 2 (the same size I wore in 5th grade), and my 2 1/2-year-old son wear a size 9. Ha ha! I would imagine having kids with slow-growing feet means they may wear shoes out before they outgrow them. Sears has a special program that will replace any clothing or shoes you buy there if they get worn out before they are outgrown. It is free to participate in.
ReplyDeleteI love letting my kids help. Most of the time. :) But having 5 they do have to fend and learn for themselves sometimes. My hands are full enough I don't have to sit on them!
ReplyDeleteGreat lessons learned! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know what I'd do without my swiffer, my boys can even help out and use it.
ReplyDeleteI have 3 boys and I feel your pain about the shoes.
